What We’re Fighting For

I’m fighting to restore trust and create a world-class public school system that works for all kids and families.

Demanding Accountability
Demanding Accountability
With our schools under mayoral control, our elected and appointed officials must be held accountable for the performance of our public school system. Our kids and communities can’t afford more negative headlines about inefficiencies and the ways in which our system is failing our kids. We must demand competent, ethical and sound decisions from our city government officials. As your Ward One State Board Member, I will fight tirelessly on your behalf - ensuring that honesty and integrity permeate every aspect of our school system.
Fighting for Transparency
Fighting for Transparency
We must be honest about the state of our education system and what our student data is telling us. Residents are entitled to know how our schools and students are performing. Information about our schools should be public, accurate, timely, and easily accessible. Decisions made by our district government should be made with sound data that is shared with all.
Prioritizing Equity
Prioritizing Equity
I believe that every child should have adequate resources and support systems to put them on an equal footing and ensure a level playing field. Providing every student a fair chance to be successful in school and reach their full potential in life should be the benchmark. When on the State Board of Education, I will serve with an equity-lens focused on addressing disparities for our most vulnerable neighbors-- especially for people of color, English learners, special education, and at-risk populations.
Engaging Families & Community
Engaging Families & Community
Building on the progress of our current representative, we must ensure that a diverse set of families and community stakeholders are involved in every aspect of decision-making for our public school system. It’s not just enough to offer families a “seat at the table.” It’s YOUR table! Whether you’re a PhD or a Metrobus driver, your voice will be heard and valued on issues facing our kids. The challenges facing our schools will require collaborative, cooperative approaches - with input and ideas from all sectors. From language accessibility to childcare, I will work to eliminate barriers to access and engagement when making decisions on the State Board of Education.
